This class is for first time drivers who do not have a stateside driver’s license. This is a blended course with 25 hours of prerequisite online training, 14 hours of classroom training, followed by 6 hours of instructor supervised driving.

- Schedule: August 14-16 (15:30 to 20:00) & August 17-18 (0800-1700/ Driving).
STEPS FOR OBTAINING OPERATOR’S PERMIT FOR CIVILIAN VEHICLE (USFJ FORM 4EJ) / SOFA LICENSE
STEP 1
Obtain Student Operator’s Permit by attending a Driver Safety Class at the military base you are assigned to in Japan. (Camp Zama – Every Tuesday, Bldg. 102, 263-4810) (NAF Atsugi–Every Tuesday, Bldg. 146, Room 109, 264-3794)
STEP 2
Complete 25-hour ONLINE Nebraska AAA Driver Safety Course. Course fee is $40. Register here
STEP 3
Register for Driver Education Course at Tours & Travel office (Bldg.978). Fee is $300.
Note: You must have your Learner’s Permit (Step 1) and online course certificate (Step 2) with you when you visit the Tours & Travel Office (Bldg. 978) to register for the Driver Education Course.
STEP 4
Complete Driver Education Course in person at NAF Atsugi, MWR Library, 2nd Floor, Bldg. 949. See schedule at the top of the page.
STEP 5
Make an appointment to take a driving test on the military installation you are assigned to.
