Youth Sports

The Youth Sports program at Atsugi is a recreational program focused on participation. Three and 4-year-olds participate in a Start Smart learning program that teaches the motor skills required for future sport participation. Children 5-8 years old can look forward to playing their first games and working on basic teamwork and strategy while focusing on having fun in a relaxed atmosphere of encouragement and inclusion. At nine and older, we start splitting up the kids by gender and competing against bases around the Kanto Plain. Sports are still focused on fun, but we start to teach more advanced sport skills, and we learn how to win and lose with grace.

It’s also important to know what our program is not. It's not a competitive league. We are not a training ground for high school or stateside travel teams. We are not a program that wants to know who's the best - we want each of our kids to play, have fun and make sports an ongoing, positive experience in their lives.

Many seasonal sports (download the annual schedule under "Downloads") are available for kids ages 3-15. Also, summer adventure camps, special events and club programs are offered throughout the year in both traditional and non-traditional sports. The Youth Sports program is always looking for volunteer coaches as well. If you'd like to help kids have a blast and learn a sport, please call 264-3826 for more information.
